Oil of lemon eucalyptus is the only naturally-derived active ingredient recommended by the CDC to repel disease-carrying insects. Lemon eucalyptus insect repellent is made using essential oil derived from the lemon eucalyptus tree (Corymbia citriodora or Eucalyptus citriodora). The oil is rich in a natural compound called p-menthane-3,8-diol (PMD), which has been found to be effective in repelling mosquitoes and other insects.
